News & Events TALENTED ARTISTS CAPTURES NOTTINGHAM CITYSCAPE IN UPCOMING EXHIBITION
Famed for her cityscapes of London and New York, artist Rachel Tighe has taken on the challenge of recreating the Nottingham skyline – and will be putting them on display in the city later this month
Her works depicting Nottingham include iconic imagery of the Old Market Square and Paul Smith’s flagship store, and will be on show in an upcoming exhibition at George Thornton Art in the city’s Flying Horse Walk from 22 to 29 November.
Rachel creates her pictures by applying acrylic on to canvas, drawing on her past experience as an illustrator creating vibrant freehand expressions in block colours that reflect Nottingham’s busy retail scene.
Artist, Rachel Tighe, said: “I’ve been to Nottingham on a number of occasions now and I am always taken aback by its impressive architecture and vibrant city feel.
“My painting aim is to capture the city’s sense of movement and really capture it in a way that those living there can identify with.”
George Thornton who owns the Nottingham-based gallery said: “I’ve had Rachel as a resident artist for a while now and her cityscapes have proven really popular.
“One question I’m always asked by clients if she ever does scenes of Nottingham. Until now the answer has always been no, but we are really pleased to include her take on Nottingham in her latest exhibition with us.”
George has taken Rachel all over the world to various art fairs including Monaco, New York and London where her work has always been well received by art buyers.
“I am very much looking forward to putting her works on display in the city, and I am sure that they will be hugely popular with the people of Nottingham,” added George.
Rachel’s work will be on display in an exhibition of her works from Saturday 22 November to Saturday 29 November with a chance to meet Rachel herself on the opening day of the exhibition from 1pm – 4pm in the gallery.
